Jan Maitland...
specializes in portraits and also draws from foreign and American motifs from nature, and the human form for her vividly designed landscapes and figure paintings. Jan has studied painting, drawing, and sculpture privately, including with portrait artist Daniel Greene and Albert Handell. Her work has been widely presented in group and solo shows, as well as in national and international juried exhibitions, earning Ms. Maitland many honors. Jan teaches pastel painting and portraiture, and has served as a judge for art exhibitions and art fairs. Ms. Maitland’s paintings have been represented on the cover of several magazines, such as, the Oregon Public Broadcasting “Oregon Focus”, and “Museums and Galleries: Lane County Visual Arts and Exhibits”. Her Painting “Sisters View” was selected for the label of a LaVelle Vineyards Private Collection Wine.
Her Paintings are in many private collections across the country. Jan’s portrait commissions have been varied . . . Court Judges, children, houses, pets, special landscapes, and even privately owned airplanes.
Ms. Maitland has traveled extensively in Europe, Eastern Europe, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean. She has painted many series reflecting those travels.
March 2001, Jan led a group to paint in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and is preparing future group-painting trips.
Jan is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, an Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America, a Signature Member of the Northwest Pastel Society, a member of the Portrait Society of America, and a member of the Society of Gilders. |
